BRANT, Wayne O. - WWII, Korea, Vietnam Vet - Putnam

One Hoosier was killed, two are missing, 10 wounded and one was injured in action, according to the latest casualty report of the Korean War released by the Department of Defense.

Lee Hayden, Delphi, 24 years old, was reported killed to become Delphi’s first Korean War dead.  His wife, Mrs. Anna Hayden was notified of his death yesterday.

Those missing are Pvt Lawrence E. Bridgewater, son of Mrs. Caroline Bridgewater, Loogootee and Cpl. Russell F. Morris, husband of Mrs. Viola M. Morris, Muncie.

Wounded are Col. Luvern Ash, son of Mrs. Emma R. Holcomb, Muncie; Pfc John A. Augusyniak, son of Mrs. Viola Augustyniak, Ft Wayne; Cpl. Glenn W. Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cook, Lawrenceburg; Pvt Robert J. Tyrone, Gary; Pfc Eugene L. Tappan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tappan, LaPorte; Pfc John T. Stapleton Jr, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Stapleton, Bloomington; Pfc. John S. Mordus, son of Mrs. Rose Marie Mordus, Whiting; Pfc Harry J Whipker, son of Mrs. Verna Whipker, Columbus; Pfc Leonard Harry Fieler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Fieler, Batesville and Pvt Frank J. Wanicki Jr son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Wanicki, Hammond.

Pfc. WAYNE O. BRANT, son of Mrs. Minnie Brant, Greencastle was reported injured.

39 Indiana servicemen were aboard the transport Gen. Simon B. Buckner which arrived in Seattle yesterday from the Orient. The following Hoosier were among the 1,214 rotation combat troops on the ship… Pfc. Wayne O. Brant, Greencastle.

Mrs. Minnie Brant, west Columbia Street has received from her son, Pfc Wayne Brant that he is in a hospital in Japan. He wrote his mother “not to worry about him” and that he would like to hear from his friends. Pfc Brant had been serving in Korea.  His address is: Pfc. Wayne O. Wayne O. Brant, 72, Marshall, Ill., died Tuesday at his residence. He was the son of Lawrence and Minnie (Mangus) Brant. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years. He had served in World War II, Korea, and two tours of Vietnam. He had also worked as a carpenter and a locksmith. He was a membered of the Marshall American Legion, the 40 and 8, the DAV and VFW. He married Erma Stewart on May 8, 1954. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Terry Brant and wife Cindy, Marion; a stepson, Don Wood, Amo; two sisters, Mary Shaw, Greencastle, and Effie Pickett, Alexandria; two grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lawrence Brant Jr., Fred Brant, Marion Brant and Walter Brant; and two sisters, Mabel Sears and Elizabeth Arnold.
